Implementing a Climate of Safety: Consensus Recommendations on Surgical Gloving
Chad Flora
1.0 CE CreditIn 2023, a clinical expert team was established to conduct a systematic literature review and develop clear guidance on surgical gloving practice in the Operating Room. Their goal was to formulate recommendations to improve the safety, protection, and experience of healthcare providers and their patients, focusing on four key areas: Glove Fit, Double Gloving, Indicator Systems, and Glove Damage and Change Protocol. Along with the updated 2025 AORN Guidelines for Perioperative Practice, the Consensus recommendations provide standardized guidelines about surgical gloving practice. This program will provide the attendee with the current recommendations that aim to enhance clinical outcomes, improve safety, and support hand health and career longevity.
